Primary Book Week

August brought a crescendo of excitement to our primary library as we celebrated CBCA Book Week under the theme 'Symphony of Stories'. Just like instruments in an orchestra, every element of a great children's book—vibrant illustrations, engaging plotlines, unforgettable characters, and descriptive words—came together to inspire our young readers.

Throughout the week, the library was buzzing at break times with an action-packed schedule of activities:

  • Monday: Students kicked off the week with Storybox story time and launched into a library-wide scavenger hunt, solving clues to reveal our mystery phrase: Symphony of Stories.

  • Tuesday: The library was packed to capacity! Students enjoyed book-themed board games—including one linked to the Early Childhood winner The Emperor's Egg—listened to a reading of the shortlisted picture book Bob and Dob, and crafted their own feathered paddlepop puppets.

  • Wednesday: All term we have had vinyl records as part of our Book Week display. Students have been curious about how you listen to the music or stories on them. So Mrs Koehler brought in a record player and on Wednesday held Record Player Storytime! The students enjoyed listening to DisneyLand’s recording of ‘The Little Red Riding Hood’.

  • Thursday & Friday: The excitement continued through the end of the week with ongoing scavenger hunts, Storybox sessions, and creative coloring stations.

Secondary Book Week

Book Week 2026 brought stories to life in the Secondary School as we celebrated this year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories.” While Book Week looks a little different in Secondary, it is still a wonderful opportunity to celebrate books, authors, characters and the joy of reading. Our library display featured student-written book reviews, which were eagerly read by other students looking for their next great read.

One of the highlights of the week was our traditional Book Week Kahoot, which brought students and teachers together for plenty of laughter, friendly rivalry and a little bit of competitive spirit. With teachers joining in alongside students and some very tempting prizes up for grabs, it was a lot of fun for everyone involved!

Our optional Book Week Parade gave students the chance to dress as a favourite book character and share the book that inspired their costume. It was wonderful to see students and staff embracing the fun and reminding us that there is always a good story waiting to be discovered.

Ultimately, Book Week is about much more than books. It creates opportunities to build community, connect with one another and celebrate the stories that shape us. Stories help us see the world through different eyes, understand experiences beyond our own and remind us of the power of connection. What better way to create memories than by celebrating the “Symphony of Stories” together

Happy reading.
