Secondary Library
A warm welcome to all our new students and families. The start of the school year is always exciting, but we know it can also feel a little overwhelming when everything is new. We want you to know that the Secondary Library is a safe and welcoming space where you can take a breath, relax, read a book, study, or simply enjoy some quiet time. (Not too quiet though - our library is a lively and much-loved place!)
We recently celebrated Library Lovers’ Week with the Queensland School Library Association, which highlights the joy and importance of school libraries. It was wonderful to see so many students enjoying our special display and sharing their love of reading.
Our vision for the library is simple: we want it to be a place where every student feels supported, inspired, and curious. Whether you need help finding the right book, researching for an assignment, or discovering something new to read, we are here for you.

We are also excited to announce our very first Middle School Book Club, hosted by Miss Campbell and Ms Potgieter. The club will meet twice each term during Wednesday lunchtime and is open to students who enjoy reading and talking about books together.
Later this year, we hope to send teams from Years 6–7 and Years 8–9 to compete in the Readers Cup - a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate reading as a team challenge.

Primary Library
Our Primary Library has been a busy hub for reading and borrowing since week 1 this term. Most break times we have all our newly added soft furnishings filled with students reading their favourite books. Dog Man, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Geronimo Stilton, Baby Sitter’s Club, Minecraft and The Rainbow Fairy series have all been popular upon the students’ return to school.
Borrower of the Month
For January Elsyanna Hodge was our top borrower by borrowing 9 books in the four days of January we had in term time! Elsyanna said that her favourite book from that week was Geronimo Stilton’s ‘The Island of Dragons’. She says she enjoys fantasy books, especially if there are dragons. Keep up the great work with reading, Elsyanna!
This year in our Primary Library we will be displaying and congratulating the top borrower of each month. The aim of this display is to encourage students to read many books. In our library we use the phrase ‘Read to Succeed’. When students read often and for their enjoyment they will expand their vocabulary and therefore their academic levels increase as they understand more. One of the lessons that is covered early on in our library is how to pick a good fit book. When a child learns how to pick a good fit book for them it will be like Goldilocks finding the right porridge, just right! As parents, you can encourage this strategy at home by reminding them:
Pick a book
Look at the front and back covers, does it interest you?
Open to a random page and read it
Hold up a finger for each word that is unknown
Check at the end of the page how many fingers -
0-1 words is too easy but can still be read, just won’t challenge
2-3 words is perfect amount of challenge
4-5 words is going to be too difficult. Parents, you can read this one to them.
Celebrating our Library
In the Primary Library we displayed lots of different books with read covers for Library Lovers’ Week. Students were asked what they love about libraries. Many said, ‘the books’, or ‘taking books home’. Others said how it is a quiet space. Personally, I love libraries because they are filled with possibilities, so many adventures and options to choose from. Where will your next library adventure take you?
Book Club
This year we will be participating in all eight issues of the Scholastic Book Club. Issue 1 was sent out in Week 2 and orders closed in Week 3. This program aims to foster a love of reading in students while providing families with affordable options to purchase books for their children.
If you are a current Club member, please update your student’s class details via Loop, if you haven’t already done so.. If you are new to Scholastic Club, you can sign up through Scholastic’s Loop.
A Thoughtful Approach to Book Selection
Scholastic serves diverse schools with varying values. To uphold our College’s ethos, we reviewed their catalogues and found many excellent books, though some may not align with our values. As an independent bookseller, Scholastic’s selections may not fully reflect our school’s ethos. We encourage parents to use discretion when purchasing.
Every purchase earns Scholastic Rewards for our school, which are used to obtain books and educational resources.
How to Order
To make purchasing easy and secure, make use of the LOOP (Linked Online Ordering & Payment) system. See reverse of this letter.
● Orders must be placed by the due date listed on the catalogue.
● If you need assistance, feel free to contact the library team at moretonlibrary@acc.edu.au.
There is no obligation for parents to order books. We are unable to handle cash payments and can only process orders made through the online LOOP platform.
