Premier’s Reading Challenge

May marks the start of the Premier’s Reading Challenge for our Primary students (Year 7 to 9 students are welcome to participate too). A reading log sheet has been sent home with a letter from Mrs Sarah Rowan. The reading period is from the 11th May to the 28th August. Please only record books read during this time. To complete the challenge Prep to Year 2 is to read or experience 20 books. Year 3 and Year 4 students are to read 20 books and Year 5 to Year 9 are to read 15 books. The requirement for Year 5 through to Year 9 students to read 15 books acknowledges that older students are likely to select longer, more complex books that may take them longer to read.

At ACCM, Mrs Samantha Gallagher (AKA Miss Sparkles) and Mrs Koehler run a competition for the classes and students who read the most. A trophy is given to:

• The class who has the highest participation level

• the class who reads the most

• The students who read the most in

  • Prep-Year 2

  • Year 3 to 4

  • Year 5 to 6

All students to participate and complete the challenge will receive a certificate from the Premier of Queensland, Mr David Crisafulli.

Borrower Of The Month For March and April

This year we are displaying our top Primary Library borrowers in the library. For March George Thomas borrowed the most books at 53 books! In total our P-6 students borrowed 2400 books! It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm students have in finding their next reads. 

April had less borrowings due to the holiday break, however William Moore was quick to begin borrowing as soon as Term 2 began and succeeded in borrowing a total of 12 books in the first  two weeks back!  Well done, William! Overall the P-6 students borrowed 1400 books in the 9 days of April we had to borrow in. Keep up the good work students! I wonder who will be May’s top borrower?

National Simultaneous Storytime

On May 27th the Primary students will be all hearing the same story simultaneously! This year’s book is ‘Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller’. Students will complete in class an activity related to the story and discuss the traits of a leader.

Book Club

Thank you for your support in the Scholastic Book Club Issue #3 catalogue. Your combined support raised $150 for our library to purchase new books from Scholastic!
