Benefits of Reading
This winter weather has been perfect for curling up with a good book and a warm drink. That is the idea behind our new book display in the library.

We know it is a busy time for students with assignments and exams coming up. However, once exams are over, we hope students will take some time during the holidays to relax and enjoy a good book.
Reading is not just a way to pass the time - it has real benefits for both the mind and body. Research shows that regular reading can:
Reduce stress quickly: Just six minutes of quiet reading can slow your heart rate and relax your muscles.
Improve empathy and thinking skills: Reading helps us understand others better and strengthens our brain.
Support better sleep: Reading a print book (instead of a screen) helps your body wind down for rest.
Promote a longer, healthier life: Studies show that people who read regularly may live longer.
Readers Cup Challenge 2026

Speaking of enjoying a good book, five of our Middle School students have been doing exactly that!
On Thursday, 4 June 2026, our Year 7 & 8 Readers Cup team competed at Maroochydore State School. They faced strong competition and did an excellent job, placing 10th out of 22 schools.
It was a fantastic effort, and we are very proud of how well they represented our College. Congratulations to Ben Anderton, Elissa Culverhouse, Everly Sylvester, Jayden Clarke, and Kaylee Frey on a job well done!

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has started! Students in Primary school are encouraged to record their books they read on the record sheet. Please sign these and send them back to school to be counted.
The Premier’s Challenge is for Prep to Year 4 to read 20 books before the 28th August and for Year 5 to 9 to read 15 books. However, we have challenged our students to read as many books as they can until that date and we have trophies for
the student in each year level who reads the most
The class who has the highest level of participation
National Simultaneous Storytime
The Primary students enjoyed participating in National Simultaneous Storytime in Week 6. The story this year was ‘Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller’ by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd. The classes watched the dramatic recording of the reading in their classroom and then completed activities related to the story.
Top Borrower
Our top borrower for May was once again George Thomas! He borrowed 53 books in the month of May. This month he discovered the InvestiGators series, Big Nate and Zac Power. If you have a reluctant reader see if any of these are of interest to them! They are very popular series in our Primary school.
Readers Cup

Five Year 6 students have been reading a set list of excellent novels in preparation for the Readers Cup which was held on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. They competed at Immanuel Lutheran College in Buderim. The students tried their best and came 23rd out of 29 schools. It was a great effort from our students and we are very proud of them representing our College in this literary competition. Thank you Amelia Buchanan, Tia Amal, Amelia Simon, Brodey Drew and Raquel Rangell Ribeiro Vieira for all your hard work!
