Stuck for something to read? Read everything on your bookshelf and it will be awhile until you can get your hands on another wonderful physical book? Head to ePlatform! You can borrow up to 10 books per month. There are eBooks and audiobooks available for decodable readers, fiction, and non- fiction.

We as a school have full control over titles and can age restrict or disable titles as required. As a Christian school, we choose materials selectively and want to assure you that we filter the collection to create a safe online space. Additionally, students’ year levels determine their access, but it remains the responsibility of the parent and/or caregiver to be informed about the reading choices of their children, as in any other public library setting. 

ePlatform can be used with different devices for example a laptop, iPad, iPhone or any Android equivalent.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun! A reading log was sent out this week with your child. Alternatively, follow this LINK to print off a reading log form. The students will be regularly reminded to update their reading logs and Miss Sparkles, our literacy coordinator, has prizes ready for the students who read the most! Every student who completes the challenge will receive a certificate later in the year from the Premier of QLD!

Scholastic Book Club 

Last term we had a successful start to joining the Scholastic Book Club. We hope your children are enjoying their new reads! Issue 4 catalogue will be coming to you this week. We kindly remind you that we do not have control over what is featured in the catalogues so we ask you to use your discernment as to what you believe would be suitable for your child. Before purchasing, look online for reviews of the book if you are unsure of the book’s content. Did you know that every purchase you make on Book Club earns our school 15% of the order value in Scholastic Rewards? We use these to purchase more books and educational resources for the school. It all helps! With the rewards from last terms’ orders, new nonfiction decodable readers and phoneme picture books were able to be purchased! Thank you!!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On the 21st May the Primary school students listened to ‘The Truck Cat’ at 12:00pm. The Truck Cat is a delightful story following the adventures of a cat named Tinka who finds where his home is! Engage with your child/ren by completing one or more of the activities below and listen to them share about the experience of NSS!

Biographies in the Spotlight!

Biographies tell someone's life story. They may focus on their experiences, achievements or challenges. They can be funny, sad, moving and inspiring! Everyone has a story to tell.

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to survive the Second World War? To be a miner in the Gold Rush? To see God move in crazy ways? Win a gold medal? Volunteer in Uganda? Have a magpie as a pet? Travel to outer space? Overcome great adversity?

Biographies provide a profound window into someone else's life and perspective. We all have something to learn from another person's experience. 

People are interesting, and so are their lives. It is a privilege to hear someone's story, and biographies give you access to SO many stories! Famous people. People born in other times and places. People we may never get to meet - but people whose stories we can still learn. How cool is that?

If you come and visit us in the secondary library, we currently have some on display. We also have a whole section on the shelves dedicated to biographies! A personal favourite is 'The Hiding Place' by Corrie Ten Boom. This novel recounts how Corrie and her family courageously hid Jews in Nazi-occupied Netherlands during WWII before their arrest and imprisonment in concentration camps. Despite enduring immense suffering and loss, Corrie shares a powerful story of resilience, forgiveness, hope and unwavering faith.

We also have an Autumn -hemed display, AND a spectacular HASS display with some of our students' very own work! While 'Autumn Coloured Covers' might not exactly be a genre - it sure looks cool! So make sure you come on down to the library and have a look.

Not a fan of autumn coloured covers or biographies? That's ok too! The librarians here at ACC are always happy to give book recommendations and help you find a book you will really enjoy reading!

Mysteries - Historical Fiction - Narratives - Crime - Christian Fiction - Graphic Novels - History - Adventure - The possibilities are endless!

Medieval display in the library

The artefacts on display in our Secondary library were created as part of the Year 8 HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) assessment from last term. During the term, students explored the topic of Medieval Europe, learning about its key events, social structures, and important historical figures. For their final assessment, each student selected a significant person from the medieval period—such as a king, queen, knight, religious leader, or notable figure in science or the arts—and conducted detailed research about their life, role, and contributions to society at the time.

Using this research, students then designed and created an artefact that connected meaningfully to the person they had studied. This artefact could represent an item that the historical figure might have used, worn, or been associated with —such as a weapon, crown, book, scroll, or symbolic object. Once the artefacts were complete, students brought their work together to create a class museum exhibit. This exhibition was set up in P Block on the final day of term, and other classes, staff, and visitors were invited to walk through the display and learn about the different people and aspects of Medieval Europe through the students' creations. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase both their knowledge and creativity. To celebrate the effort and imagination students put into their projects, prizes will be awarded for the best artefacts and museum displays. These were announced and presented at the Week 3 Assembly.
