It has been a dynamic and productive few weeks in Middle School as students navigate the demands of assessment season. Despite the busy schedule, students have embraced a range of enriching experiences beyond the classroom. Notably, our students took part in the Readers Cup for the first time—a completely new experience. They approached the challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating impressive organisation, collaboration, and team spirit throughout both the preparation phase and the competition itself. Opportunities like this offer valuable learning beyond the curriculum and lay a strong foundation for future participation.

In Week 7, another group of Middle School students represented our school at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge. After rehearsing diligently throughout the term, they performed a contemporary dance piece alongside 14 other schools. Their performance was energetic and polished, but what stood out most was the way they embodied our school values—cheering on their peers from other schools and treating all event staff and volunteers with respect. The students found the experience inspiring and motivating, and it provided an excellent opportunity to develop skills in teamwork, time management, and shared responsibility.

Finding Balance in Life

We often hear about work-life balance and the importance of setting priorities. This idea doesn’t only apply to adults—our students face similar challenges, especially as they adjust to the demands of secondary school.

As we reach the end of their first semester, many students are still learning what balance looks like and how much control they actually have over their daily routines. They’re discovering how to prioritise, plan ahead, and manage their time—skills that don’t come automatically.

There are times when students are set homework, assignments, or assessment tasks and will speak with staff about their after-school commitments and how these may affect their ability to complete their work to the best of their ability.

This is where parents and guardians are so important. Students need your help to create a balanced routine. Ask yourself:

  • How much uninterrupted time do they have each day to complete academic tasks?

  • Is there an organised space where they can concentrate?

  • Is there a consistent time set aside each day for homework?

These factors all make a difference in helping students succeed academically.

Your role in supporting their learning is invaluable. Have regular conversations with your child about their schoolwork. Use their CANVAS account to view their courses and stay informed about what they’re learning. Mark due dates on the family calendar and check that when they’re using a computer for schoolwork, only school-related tabs are open to reduce distractions. If the task is written or worksheet-based, encourage them to close the computer entirely.

If possible, consider reassessing their after-school commitments. Talk with them about creating a healthy balance of academics, extracurricular activities, spiritual growth, and family time. When students feel supported and empowered to set achievable study goals, they are far more capable of finding true balance in their lives.

Year 9

We’re pleased to share that Term 2 is progressing well for our Year 9 students. As we move closer to the exam period, students have been encouraged to stay focused and on task in all subject areas. It’s great to see many of them applying themselves and showing commitment to their learning.

Earlier this term, Mrs Martin spoke with the cohort about the expectations and requirements for specific senior subjects. This provided students with valuable insights as they begin to think ahead about their future pathways and interests.

Our worship mornings have been a highlight, with some of our Year 11 students taking the lead in guiding Year 9 worship sessions. Their involvement has created a sense of connection that we’re excited to continue building upon.

We’re also currently discussing and reflecting on the topic of respectful relationships—an important focus at this stage of students’ development. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home with your student.

Please save the date: Parent Info Night regarding Set Plans and Subject Choices is on  July 16th (T3W1).

Thank you for your ongoing support.
