From Middle School Coordinator

At ACC, we remind our Middle School students of the importance of rights and responsibilities as part of developing respectful and responsible young people.

Students learn that while they have the right to feel safe, supported, and treated fairly, they also have a responsibility to respect others and contribute positively to the learning environment. This helps students understand that their choices impact others and that balancing personal freedoms with responsibility is essential for maintaining a positive and cooperative school community.

Sometimes this is communicated through correction, which, while not always pleasant, is an important part of growing up. At these times, we aim to guide students, helping them learn from their choices and make positive changes moving forward. This is important for students’ futures, as these skills prepare them to navigate real-world situations with maturity, respect and sound judgement.

Whether in further education, the workplace, or relationships, the ability to understand and balance rights and responsibilities enables students to contribute positively to society and make thoughtful, ethical decisions.

Correcting students is not always an easy task, but it is a necessary part of helping them grow, develop character, and learn to take responsibility for their actions.

Year 7

We are now in the final weeks of Term One.  The Year Seven students have transitioned from very overwhelmed new students; to students that are comfortable managing their daily class requirements, class assignments and exam preparations. 

They have made new friends, experienced a complete change of daily routines and learned that greater freedom comes with greater responsibility.  Exams for some core subjects are next week, and the students' final outcomes will be a reflection of their consistent diligence and progress across their subjects. 

The Year Seven Canberra camp is getting closer. The final day of registration for students attending camp is March 20th. Students not attending camp are required to attend school as per normal schedule. There is a comprehensive program and excursion for the students on campus, so that they can achieve similar learning outcomes to those who are attending the Canberra tour with its civic and government venues and learning opportunities. 

Students are reminded to remain diligent with the uniform guidelines and behaviour expectations. Students doing it properly are always an example to their peers, that compliance and cooperation are easily achievable goals. They demonstrate that self-control is a powerful positive in their daily lives.

Year 8

The final stretch of the term is officially here, with Year 8 students hard at work balancing their final assignments and exams leading into Week 9. Success over the coming fortnight will rely on a balanced approach: staying on top of study while ensuring everyone is getting enough sleep to stay energised. 

The blue light emitted by screens suppresses melatonin production, making it physically harder for teenagers to fall asleep and reach the deep restorative sleep they need. To protect their sleep quality, try establishing a "digital pause" where devices are charged in a common area at least one hour before lights out. Screen Time settings can be found on Apple Phones and Laptops. 

Looking ahead, the excitement continues to build for the upcoming Medieval Museum Display, where weeks of hard work and historical research will finally be showcased. This interactive exhibition will take place on Tuesday of Week 10, serving as a brilliant highlight to conclude a productive term.

Year 9

As Year 9 students prepare for their upcoming exams, this is an important stage in their academic journey. Subject selections for senior school often have specific prerequisites, so we encourage all students to stay focused, revise consistently, and take responsibility for their learning as they continue to grow and prepare for the next phase of their schooling.

It has also been great to see students engaging in character development through recent activities. The photos below capture moments of teamwork, worship, and meaningful discussions about group pressure, all of which support students in building strong relationships and making positive choices.
