End of Term Routines
Right now, we are in the End of Term Fatigue zone. Our little learners have poured an immense amount of energy, focus, and social effort into the last few months. As the finish line approaches, their emotional fuel tanks run a little low, and that exhaustion usually shows up exactly where they feel safest: at home, with you.
To help our families navigate these final weeks with grace, humor, and minimal friction, here are a few practical strategies to keep in your toolkit.
Sleep > When kids are exhausted, their emotional self-regulation is the first thing to go. Keeping the bed time routine consistency right now is crucial, including no screen time 30 minutes before bedtime.
Quiet Time > Allow some decompression time straight after school as an opportunity just to be before you jump into homework or chore expectations.
Food > Tired brains burn through glucose at an alarming rate. A lot of afternoon behaviour is the body responding to hunger. Think of giving complex carbs and proteins that offer a steady release of energy rather than a quick sugar spike once home from school.
Calm our Emotions > When our kids throw an emotional curveball, our natural instinct can be to meet their high energy with our own frustration. At this time of term, remember that calm is contagious. When a meltdown occurs, take a deep breath and remind yourself: They aren't giving me a hard time; they are having a hard time. Lower your voice, keep your instructions simple, and validate their feelings first ("I know you're so tired, buddy, we will figure this out").
We are so incredibly proud of the growth, resilience, and effort our Primary students have displayed throughout this term. They have achieved so much, and we want to ensure they finish the term feeling proud and successful.
Reports
Your child’s Semester 1 report card will be available soon. Please remember that this is a mid year checkpoint, reflecting a unique moment in time rather than a final destination.
Learning is a continuous, beautiful journey of growth, filled with triumphs, valuable stretches, and foundational building blocks. As you review their progress together, focus on their personal effort. Celebrate their individual wins and discuss the areas they are eager to grow into next term.
Thank you for your wonderful partnership as we guide, support, and cheer them on every step of the way!
